My Journey:

Geography was my favourite subject in school and I followed this interest all the way to Newcastle University. I had one lecture, for one hour, one day that inspired my whole career. I learnt how offshore wind was offering new economic opportunities to the North East and recognised that we were on the start of this journey in my hometown too. My dissertation focused on Grimsby’s transformation through offshore wind – I Interviewed 17 people, many who I work with today. My first job was in the Economic Development team in the Local Authority before I landed my dream job at Orsted in 2018.

Working Environment:

No day is the same. I could be working at home, in the Grimsby office (my ‘base office’) or with my team in London. Some weeks I’m out and about in our locations across the UK, namely Norfolk and across the Humber but I sometimes jump on flights to Denmark or the Isle of Man too!

Duties:

My job role is to ensure Orsted is embedded in the regions where we are developing, constructing and operating our offshore wind farms in the UK and the Isle of Man. Offshore wind, is offshore but, associated infrastructure and long term facilities find their home in communities. The majority of my role entails communicating, engaging and understanding the community and stakeholders to ensure the most value is captured for the place. This helps us direct activity – events, partnerships, funding, outreach where it matters the most and makes the most impact.
