My Journey:
After leaving the Army, I decided to join the sector in 2014. I joined the industry from technician level, involved in offshore inspection and O&M activities, while simultaneously studying toward an engineering degree with the Open University. Through a blend of professional and academic experience, I managed to secure an engineering role with Scottish Power, focusing on safety in design for offshore projects. In the role, I have been able to develop both technically and commercially and have been lucky enough to get the opportunity to study toward an MSt at the University of Cambridge.
Working Environment:
I work across a global portfolio of projects allowing access to a diverse range of people and cultures. Day to day, I operate from offices in Lowestoft allowing me close contact with and support to our local projects. I have also had the opportunity to work on a wide range of projects exploring a diverse range of challenges, ranging from innovation projects through to management of ageing assets. The role has been a fantastic opportunity for personal development, and I would highly recommend this pathway to anybody considering a career in the sector.
Duties:
In my role, I am responsible for the development of the governance systems to ensure continual design safety improvement between projects. This is a complex and varied role, working on both technical and commercial issues offering genuine opportunity to influence offshore wind development across a global portfolio of projects.
